Storm Drain Public Art Project
In partnership with the City of Omaha's Public Works Department and their Stormwater Program, Keep Omaha Beautiful has commissioned local artists to paint murals around select storm drain locations in Omaha. This public art campaign raises awareness about stormwater pollution, and promotes the theme “Healthy Waterways” with eye-catching designs on sidewalks near storm drains.
In 2025, the initiative launches with three locations, including: 11th and Howard Streets in The Old Market, South 10th and Cass Streets near the CHI Health Center Arena, and 11th and Capitol in the Capitol District. Installation efforts will take place in September through October of 2025, with an official, public-opening event on October 26th.
Storm drain education efforts help community members understand that the storm drains lead directly to local waterways. Stormwater pollution is a top cause of water quality issues in our state, and this public awareness initiative is designed to engage community members in actions they can take to keep our waterways healthy. The art calls attention to mindfulness about where our water goes, and actions that can help to keep waterways free of litter and pollution.
