Omaha Litter Analysis & Environmental Assessment
Keep Omaha Beautiful is conducting a phased, citywide study to examine litter-pollution data and the community’s needs surrounding litter pollution prevention. This study will analyze data from litter collected throughout Omaha, and incorporate feedback from community members. The aim is to identify the root causes of litter pollution, engage the community, and outline targeted solutions for ‘litter hotspots.’ These analysis efforts will provide data-driven, community-focused insights as well as targeted solutions for reducing litter pollution - and its negative effects on our urban ecosystem.

About the Study
-
Phase I
Phase I consists of qualitative and quantitative data collection throughout the year, community engagement, and synthesizing available resources to understand the impact litter pollution is having across the City of Omaha.
-
Phase II
Phase II includes analyzing data from collected litter and creating a comprehensive story of current litter pollution in Omaha. This phase will include identifying litter “hotspots”, littering patterns, and incorporating the community’s needs.
-
Phase III
In Phase III, key findings will be shared with stakeholders and the public. This report will include data collected and recommended solutions. KOB aims to complete the first phases of the study in early-2026, with implementation of litter-reduction solutions in pilot locations shortly after.*
*Keep Omaha Beautiful plans to revisit each phase of the study over multiple years to make continuous improvements, ensure the effectiveness of solutions, identify further resources needed, and continue to address community needs.
