Now Hiring: Communications & Special Events Coordinator

Our organization is continuing to grow and adding more people to our team. While we finish the selection process for our Volunteer & Programs Coordinator, we're starting our search for a Communications & Special Events Coordinator. 

Keep Omaha Beautiful (KOB) is a small, environmental nonprofit organization that dates back to 1959. Our mission is to foster environmental and community stewardship through education, service, and advocacy. Each year, we work with thousands of students, volunteers, and supporters in the Omaha community. With this ever-growing base of environmental sustainability advocates joining our mission, we need to stay connected and continually engage them. Therefore, we are looking for a creative communicator that can help tell our story as well as provide support for KOB’s community events, fundraising efforts, and programs. This full-time (40 hours/week) employee will report directly to the Executive Director.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of KOB’s communications objectives/strategies
  • Coordinate the creation of promotional, outreach, and fundraising materials
  • Integrate environmental education into digital and outreach campaigns
  • Develop creative social media content and manage regular posting across platforms
  • Maintain website, update content, and enhance search engine optimization
  • Track, evaluate, and report analytics for all communication efforts/platforms
  • Write press releases and develop relationships with local media outlets to increase coverage of KOB’s activities
  • Coordinate various KOB community events and provide general program support
  • Work with the Executive Director to identify and pursue new funding opportunities to support programs
  • Write content for grant applications and reports
  • Participate in community meetings and events to foster relationships with key stakeholders

There will also be other duties as assigned. KOB is a small nonprofit, which necessitates employees wearing numerous hats and embracing an all-hands-on-deck approach. The ideal candidate will enjoy a diversity of responsibilities and embrace new duties as they emerge.

  • Creative thinker with a knack for generating and implementing innovative ideas
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with the public, volunteers, and donors
  • Highly organized and incredible attention to detail
  • Dedicated to consistently producing professional, high-quality work
  • Skilled in working cooperatively with others in a team-oriented environment
  • Able to think critically and problem solve independently when issues arise
  • Flexible and can successfully adapt to ongoing, positive change
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple duties and tasks simultaneously
  • Tech savvy and willing to adopt and learn new software and digital-based processes
  • KOB is committed to active multi-modal transportation options, but the candidate must still have a valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle
  • Must be able to work in an office environment with potential for long hours in front of a computer and be able to stand and work at community events
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required in communications, marketing, sustainability, education, environmental science, nonprofit management, or another relevant field
  • At least two years of professional experience involving writing, marketing, social media and website management, special event planning, community outreach, fundraising, and/or nonprofit program management

Additional Preferences (not required, but a definite plus)

  • Experience writing successful grants and/or completing grant reports
  • Experience developing a communications strategy and materials for successful fundraising campaigns
  • Skilled at graphic design, video, and/or photography
  • Experience coordinating large-scale events
  • Comfortable speaking in front of large groups
  • Specialized training in specific sustainability-related topics
  • Fluency in speaking and writing in Spanish

Schedule & Compensation

  • Full-time (40 hours/week) with occasional evening or weekend work (community events)
  • Competitive compensation based on talents, skills, and experience ($38,000 to $40,000 annual salary)
